Marc Bouchkov’s artistry is driven by expression. His violin playing is grounded not only in a thorough knowledge of the score, the historical content and the authenticity of the interpretation, but also in his belief that performance is a way to communicate directly with his listeners. The closeness of the violin’s sound to the human voice is his inspiration for expressing feelings and emotions in music, turning these into a musical experience for the audience.
Marc Bouchkov was born 1991 into a family of violinists. He received his first lessons at the age of five from his grandfather, Mattis Vaitsner. He studied with Claire Bernard and Boris Garlitzky, who has been his mentor ever since.
Marc Bouchkov’s artistic development has been marked by numerous international awards. He won First Prize at the highly-regarded “International Violin Contest Henri Koch,” at the “European Young Concert Artists Audition” and at the “Queen Elizabeth Competition”. In 2013 he won the First Prize at the “Montreal International Musical Competition“, was named an award-winner of the Stiftung Juventus by Georges Gara and received the “Lotto-Förderpreis” of the Rheingau Musik Festival. From October 2014 to July 2017 Marc Bouchkov studied as a Young Soloist in a postgraduate course at the Kronberg Academy with Mihaela Martin.
As a concert artist, the young musician has enjoyed a rapidly growing and widely acclaimed career. “Without doubt: an exceptional talent!” wrote the Neue Zurcher Zeitung after his concert with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and Lionel Bringuier. Highlights of the 2016/2017 season included concerts with the hr Sinfonieorchester and Christoph Eschenbach, the Orchestre National de Belgique and the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale RAI in Turin under the baton of Andrey Boreyko.
Marc Bouchkov has performed with the NDR-Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, the Belgian National Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie. He played Brahms Violin Concerto with the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker for a ballet production of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In 2014, upon the invitation of Mariss Jansons, Marc Bouchkov performed the inaugural concert of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s “Essentials” series.
As a keen chamber musician, Marc Bouchkov receives invitations to Hamburg, Montpellier, Zurich, Colmar, St. Petersburg and Montreal as well as to festivals like the Heidelberger Frühling and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. In October 2016 he gave his debut at Wigmore Hall London where he was awarded with the London Music Masters award.
The season 2017/18 began for Marc Bouchkov with the release of his first album with works by Ysaye, Chausson and himself, which was produced as part of the new harmonia#nova series by harmonia mundi and, in November 2017, was awarded a Diapason d’or and a Diapason Découverte as well as nominated for the ICMA 2018; in January 2018, Gramophone featured him as „One to Watch“ together with a glorious review of his album.
Higlights of the 2018/19 season include collaborations with the Münchner Symphoniker and the Hamburger Symphoniker, both with Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto as well as recitals and concerts at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Maison de Radio France in Paris, and the Konzerthaus in Berlin.

Sein Spiel ist nicht nur begründet auf einer umfassenden Kenntnis der Partituren, des historischen Kontexts und der Authentizität der Interpretation, er versteht seine Aufführung auch als unmittelbare Vermittlung von Inhalten. Marc Bouchkov wird 1991 in eine Geigerfamilie geboren. Von seinem Großvater Mattis Vaitsner erhält er den ersten Geigenunterricht im Alter von fünf Jahren. In der Folge lernt er bei Claire Bernard und Boris Garlitzky, der ihm fortan als Mentor zur Seite steht.
Marc Bouchkovs Weg ist gesäumt von zahlreichen internationalen Auszeichnungen. So gewinnt er Erste Preise beim „Concours International pour Violon Henri Koch“, bei der „European Young Concert Artists Audition“ in Leipzig und beim „Concours Reine Elisabeth“. Schließlich gewinnt er 2013 den Ersten Preis bei der „Montreal International Musical Competition” und wird zum Preisträger der Stiftung Juventus von Georges Gara ernannt. Kürzlich erhielt er den LOTTOFörderpreis des Rheingau Musik Festivals. Von Oktober 2014 bis Juli 2017 studierte Marc Bouchkov als Junger Solist im Aufbaustudium an der Kronberg Academy bei Mihaela Martin.
Die Konzerttätigkeit von Marc Bouchkov verläuft von Beginn an rasant und vielbeachtet von der Kritik. „Ohne Zweifel: ein außergewöhnliches Talent!“ schrieb die Neue Zürcher Zeitung nach seinem Auftritt 2016 mit dem Tonhalle Orchester Zürich und Lionel Bringuier im Rahmen der Orpheum Stiftung. Höhepunkte der Spielzeit 2016/2017 waren u. a. die Auftritte mit dem hr Sinfonieorchester unter Christoph Eschenbach, mit dem Orchestre National de Belgique und dem Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale RAI in Turin unter Andrey Boreyko.
Zuvor arbeitete er schon mit dem NDR-Sinfonieorchester, dem Belgian National Orchestra, dem Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, dem Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra und dem Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie. Zudem führte er bei einer Ballettproduktion der Deutschen Oper am Rhein Brahms’ Violinkonzert mit den Düsseldorfer Symphonikern auf. Auf Einladung von Mariss Jansons eröffnete er 2014 die Serie „Essentials“ mit dem Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Sein vielseitiges kammermusikalisches Wirken führt Marc Bouchkov u. a. nach Hamburg, Montpellier, Zürich, Colmar, St. Petersburg und Montreal sowie zum Heidelberger Frühling und der Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. Im Oktober 2016 gab er sein Debüt in der Londoner Wigmore Hall, wo er den London Music Masters Preis erhielt.
Im Herbst 2017 erschien sein erstes Album mit Werken von Ysaye, Chausson und eigenen Kompositionen im Rahmen der neuen harmonia#nova Reihe von harmonia mundi, das im November 2017 mit dem Diapason d’or und dem Diapason Découverte ausgezeichnet und für den ICMA 2018 nominiert wurde.
Höhepunkte der Saison 2018/19 sind Zusammenarbeiten mit Münchner Symphonikern und den Hamburger Symphonikern, mit dem Violinkonzert von Tschaikowsky sowie Rezitale und Konzerte u.a. in der Hamburger Elbphilharmonie, im Maison de Radio France Paris und im Konzerthaus Berlin.
2018/2019L’expression musicale est au cœur de ce qui anime Marc Bouchkov. Son jeu se fonde sur une connaissance approfondie des partitions et de leur contexte historique, favorisant l’authenticité de son interprétation. La transmission directe de contenus est primordiale lors de ses représentations. La proximité du son du violon avec celui de la voix humaine lui est source d’inspiration pour exprimer par la musique des émotions et des sentiments, les rendre perceptibles au public et les lui faire vivre.
Né en 1991 dans une famille de musiciens, il a cinq ans lorsque Mattis Vaitsner, son grand-père, lui donne son premier cours. Son premier concert public a lieu un an plus tard.
En 2001, il rejoint la classe de Claire Bernard au conservatoire de Lyon, puis étudie à partir de 2007 au Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris avec Boris Garlitzky, qui lui prodigue aujourd’hui encore de précieux conseils.
Marc Bouchkov participe à de nombreux masterclasses et festivals, dont ceux du Moulin d’Ande, de Troyes, Bordeaux, Montpellier, de Viterbo (Italie), du New Hampshire (USA) et des Musicales de Colmar en musique de chambre. Le jeune violoniste est par ailleurs boursier de la Villa Musica en Rhénanie-Palatinat.
Le parcours de Marc Bouchkov est jalonné de prix et distinctions internationales de premier plan. En 2010, il gagne le Premier Prix du « Concours International pour Violon Henri Koch » ainsi que celui du « European Young Concert Artists Audition » de Leipzig. Il lui est par ailleurs décerné la même année le prix du CNSM de Paris avec mention spéciale du Jury et, en 2011 le grand « Ebel-Preis ». En 2012, il est finaliste et lauréat du prix du très renommé Concours Reine Elisabeth de Bruxelles, avant de gagner en 2013 le premier prix du Concours international de musique de Montréal et d’être lauréat du prix de la Fondation Juventus de Georges Gara.
Marc Bouchkov connaît un fulgurant début de carrière de soliste. Invité à de nombreux récitals à Hambourg, au Festival Radio France de Montpellier, à l’International Musical Olympus Festival de St. Petersburg, au Théâtre de la Ville de Paris ou à Montréal, il multiplie les apparitions comme soliste avec des orchestres tels que l’Orchestre National de Belgique, le Royal Philharmonic Orchestra de Liège, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra ou encore le Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie.
Marc Bouchkov fit ses début avec le NDR-Sinfonieorchester au cours de la saison 2014/15. Il ouvrit la série « Essentials » avec le Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra sous la direction de Mariss Jansons – qui fut un temps fort de la saison, tout comme son interprétation du concerto pour violon de Brahms avec le Düsseldorfer Symphoniker au Deutsche Oper am Rhein, dans une chorégraphie de Mats Ek.
Marc Bouchkov a ouvert la saison 2015/16 par un concert de musique de chambre avec l’altiste Adrien Boisseau et le violoncelliste Kian Soltani à la Philharmonie de Cologne, dans la Beethovenhaus de Bonn et à l’Auditorium du Louvre de Paris. Le jeune violoniste se produira par ailleurs à la Tonhalle Zürich, aux Schubertiade de Schwarzenberg et au festival des Heidelberger Frühling.
